TEXARKANA, Ark. – WKU graduate student Luke Fuller has won the CUSA Individual Championship in Texarkana. Fuller is the first player in the program to win an individual title since 2006, and the first ever to claim the CUSA title.
The Hilltoppers as a team wrapped up conference play and finished seventh during the stroke play rounds.
The Kentucky native claimed the championship Wednesday afternoon following a dominant week as he was under par for the entirety of the tournament. Fuller turned in a 2-under 70 final round. This round included five birdies and an eagle on his seventh hole. Fuller led the field in total birdies with 14 and also led the field in Par 5s with a 4.25 average. Fuller’s win caps off a successful season where he turned in three top-10 finishes.
Both tying for 24th for the Tops was Nic Hofman and Riley Grindstaff. Hofman turned in a 1-over 73 final round along with four birdies. Two of which came on his final two holes which capped off his strong round to give himself the top-25 finish. Riley Grindstaff finished his day with a 4-over 76 final round. The Hilltopper junior put in one birdie this round and met par 33 total times during the tourney.
Hilltopper junior Stephen Warren finished tied for 36th on the leaderboard today following a 4-over 76 final round. The Kentucky native finished his tournament with a 232 total score along with eight total birdies.
Senior Connery Meyer came in during the final round as a sub for Gage Doyle. Meyer turned in a 4-under 68 during the final round which is his best round during the Xavier Invitational. Meyer put in seven birdies and an eagle on his seventh hole.
WKU closes their season with four finishes in the top-three. Several Hilltoppers will be competing in tournaments individually throughout the country during the spring and summer.
