For about 30 minutes, it looked as if Griffin Jackson was going to win his second tournament in two tries to start the 2024 golf season. Zach Sloan, of Hart County, upended that anticipation at Willow Oaks Golf Club on Monday.
Jackson led Glasgow at the Scottie Invitational with a par 71, but Sloan finished with a 2-under 69 to capture the individual title. Franklin-Simpson’s “A” team won the team title with a 306, while Greenwood’s “A” team was second with a 308.
The Scotties’ “A” team finished seventh with a 331. After Jackson, Tate Pace shot 78, Harrison Belcher posted 90, Sam Allen fired 92 and Tucker Garrett finished with a 96. For Glasgow’s “B” team, Wilder Pate fired 100, Gavin Copas shot 101, Wyatt Morgan posted a 114, and Gary Pennington finished with a 119.
The Trojans’ “A” team finished 10th with a 353. Braeden Furlong led Barren with a 78, while Cameron Pippen shot 84, JP Ross fired 95, Jacob Spence posted a 96 and Jay Houchens finished with a 97. Will Spillman led the Trojans’ “B” team with a 91, while Braxton Hall fired 98, Lincoln Zalla shot 105 and Lincoln Bielak finished with a 110.
After Franklin-Simpson and Greenwood, Taylor County “A” shot 310, Russell County “A” fired 319, and Allen County-Scottsville posted a 321 to round out the Top 5 teams.
After, Sloan and Jackson, Barton Rutledge of Allen County-Scottsville shot 72, Layton Richey of Bowling Green fired 73, and Noah McMillen of Russell County, Dylan Fiveash of Franklin-Simpson and Eli Stamper of Allen County-Scottiesville each shot 74 to tie for fifth.
Glasgow will be back in action Wednesday at Central City Country Club, while Barren County returns to action Monday, Aug. 5, at Bowling Green Country Club.
