WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – WKU Women’s Golf wrapped up the first two rounds of their season-opening tournament, the Boilermaker Classic. Lady Topper junior Sydney Hackett is currently leading the way for the Lady Tops as she is sitting in fourth place heading into the final round.
WKU is currently in fourth and is two strokes off of second place.
Former Glasgow golfer Nina McMurtrey gave the Lady Tops a boost in the first round, helping them climb toward the top of the leaderboard by shooting a 1-under 71 in the first round, including three birdies in a row from holes five through seven.
The Lady Toppers opened their first two rounds in efficient fashion. Led by Sydney Hackett who ended her day with a 3-over 144 total score, WKU posted a 295 total score on their first round. In her WKU debut, Julia Zigrossi had a bounce back second round, posting a 1-under 71 which ties her single round career best.
Senior Catie Craig had an incredible bounce back second round for the Red and White, shaving eight strokes off of her first round score and positioning herself firmly in the top-20.
“The team played solid today, we played some great golf but still have some areas to work on,” said head coach Adam Gary. “Sydney has been playing great in practice so it’s nice to see it carry over to the event. We still have a lot of golf left and we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
