Barren County’s Tate Spillman and Caverna’s Tyson Martin are players of the year in their respective football districts.
The Kentucky Football Coaches Association released its statewide list of coaches and players of the year in all districts and classes Thursday.
Spillman, the Trojans’ quarterback and defensive back, was named the Class 6A, District 2 Player of the Year. He is 45 of 96 passing for 799 yards and eight touchdowns, and has rushed for 565 yards and 12 TDs. On defense, Spillman has 77 tackles and an interception return for a touchdown.
Martin won Class 1A, District 1 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. This year he has rushed for 1,115 yards on 119 attempts and 19 touchdowns. He has also thrown a touchdown. On defense, he has forced three fumbles, recovered three fumbles, and returned two for touchdowns. He and his twin bother, Kenyon, are tied as leading tacklers on the team with 76 each.
In Class 3A, District 2, in which Glasgow plays, Max Chaney of Franklin-Simpson was named coach of the year, while Hart County’s Brennan Griffin was named player of the year.
Allen County-Scottsville coach Brad Hood was named Class 4A, District 2 Coach of the Year, while Monroe County’s John Pettet was named Class 2A, District 3 Coach of the Year. Monroe’s Travis Wood was named player of the year in that district.
