WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – WKU Women’s Golf wrapped up the Boilermaker Classic Tuesday afternoon. WKU notched their first top five finish of the year after tying for fourth in the field. The Lady Toppers finished ahead of Power 5 teams, Michigan and Alabama.
WKU had a bounce back final round in West Lafayette. The Lady Toppers shaved three strokes off of their second round score to close out the day with a 14-over 302 final round. The Red and White were once again led by Sydney Hackett who ended the day with an even-par 72 final round. WKU put in 11 birdies to solidify themselves near the top of the leaderboard, Hackett was responsible for three of them. Nina McMurtrey and Kaylee Dwyer both had strong close-out rounds for the Red and White, shaving two strokes off of their respective scores in the final round.
The fourth-place finish continues their streak of consecutive top-five finishes dating back to September of last year.
“This was a great start to the season, a great way to get some experience” said head coach Adam Gary. “Sydney played really solid and everyone showed signs of being really close to playing some good golf. We are excited about Louisville’s tournament coming up.”
WKU Women’s Golf will make an in-state trip next Friday to tee off the Cardinal Cup, hosted by Louisville. The three-day tournament will take place from September 13-15, tournament pairings have yet to be announced. The field will include Louisville, Toledo, Marshall, and Cincinnati.
