Glasgow’s Griffin Jackson closed out his season of golf by finishing tied for 32nd in the first round of the Boys’ State Golf Tournament.
At Hopkinsville Country Club on Wednesday, the eighth-grader fired an 11-over par 82. He missed the cut by two strokes for next week’s state finals at Bowling Green Country Club.
Jackson was in view of the cut line for much of the day. He opened his round with three pars and a birdie, but before the turn, a couple of double bogies knocked him off the low-round pace.
Despite not making the cut to next week, Jackson had a solid season. He won the individual title at the Barren County boys’ golf tournament, finished fourth in the 2A State Tournament, and the Region 1-4 preview event. He also finished second in the Scottie Invitational.
Landon Hunt of McCracken County and Layton Richey of Greenwood each shot even-par 71 to tie atop the leader board.
Taylor County was the top team with a 312, while Owensboro was second with a 314 and McCracken County finished third with a 318. The top three teams and the next 15 individuals not on one of those teams qualified for the state finals.
The individual qualifiers were Richey, Eli Stamper and Barton Rutledge of Allen County-Scottsville, Rylan Crouch of Mayfield, Peyton Toon of Paducah Tilghman, Collin Whittington of Caldwell County, Ryan Stokes of Marshall County, Grant Broughton of Daviess County, Johnny Brown of Bowling Green, Evan Hack of Paducah Tilghman, Seth Greenwell of Bethlehem, Cy Tudor of Muhlenberg County, Ayden Olson of Green County, Chris Kelley of West Jessamine, and Ryan Loiars of Greenwood.
The final rounds of the state tournament begin Tuesday. Practice rounds are Monday.
